The main provocateur of skin cancer, including melanoma is solar radiation. In the summer it is especially important to lean about their skin: a careless attitude towards their health, especially those who are used repeatedly to scorch in the sun can trigger melanoma, the most dangerous malignant tumor of all types of skin cancer. The more often a person gets sunburn, the higher the risk of developing melanoma. Meanwhile, methods of preventing cancer of the skin is quite simple, and abide by them – the power of each of us.
Others who are more at risk of skin cancer
Risk of skin cancer include:
- people with fair skin, hair, blue-eyed, and with a large number of moles on your body (from 100 pieces and more)
- children who spend a lot of time in the sun
- people with a genetic predisposition who have close relatives with melanoma
- fans of tanning beds.
Those people who are at risk for melanoma, in addition to the normal prevention of skin cancer should be checked by a dermatologist-oncologist twice a year. Oncologists suggest even before the onset of heat, or a trip to the South, close to the equator of the country, to study your moles on your own. If you suspect (mole darkened, changed shape, color, size, bleeding) should be immediately referred to a specialist. The doctor will examine your skin and moles with the help of a special device – Dermatoscope and will assess the condition of moles. If necessary – appoint additional examination.
Take care of your skin, especially on the beach and in the water
The time has come mass travel to the sea and relaxing on the beach. Often sunscreen is key to effective prevention of skin cancer. Cosmetic product with UV protection absorbs dangerous solar radiation transforming it into heat, or reflected, like a mirror. After the ending time of the action a sunscreen (usually the duration indicated on the package), it ceases to convert and dissipate the sun’s rays, the protection level is falling rapidly.
But until that time, under the action of water, contact with sand and other factors, the barrier function sunscreen reduced. Remember that everyone is different: one without protection would be quite 10 minutes to sunburns, another 30 minutes, and the child with its delicate skin is enough for 5 minutes. So you need to re-apply on the skin sunscreen, if it is not water resistant, or if its action is calculated for 2 hours, and the like. Also, do not sunbathe during the hours of greatest solar activity. Don’t forget that it is important to use means for skin with high protection from UV radiation, sunglasses, not only on the beach, but if you are outdoors during peak hours – from 10-00 till 16-00.
Correctly select the clothes and try to stay in the shade
Did you know that basic white t-shirt has all-in-all SPF 5% (sun protection factor -the protection factor of the sun)? Clothing does not necessarily protect against ultraviolet radiation, especially if it’s something old, stretched or wet. There are special UV-protective fabric, but they require special care to maintain its protective ability: because some fabrics lose their UV protection in the wash. So you should always apply sunscreen under the swimsuit.
Shouldn’t be in the sun during the most dangerous hours of the day. You should choose a location under an umbrella, a canopy, a tree to get scattered UV rays instead of straight.
